New Column// {love+cupcakes} Eats!: Brunch at Cafe Stella

March 1, 2012

Dear readers, say hello to my new column, {love+cupcakes} Eats!. A few times a month, I’ll be sharing my adventures in restaurant land with you through pictures and words. I hope you enjoy! Our first stop is brunch at Cafe Stella in Silver Lake.

Breakfast and brunch foods are, by far, my favorite of all the meals in a day. I love that they span the gamut in flavors from sweet to savory without raising an eyebrow. Only at brunch do I feel completely comfortable essentially ordering dessert as a meal…with a side of bacon. I love that it’s totally okay for you to order juice and coffee and a cocktail all at one sitting (I’m not the only one who does this, right?). Last Sunday, we met up with a couple of friends for brunch at Cafe Stella. Both Evan and I had forgotten that we’d been here on a few occasions because we’ve always called it the “French restaurant next to the cheese shop“. Moniker aside, we’ve always revered Cafe Stella for its intimate ambiance, classy service and fantastic food.

Sitting at our booth, one of three that lined a rustic turn of the century Parisian themed bar, sunlight poured in through large windows giving the room an ethereal glow. The walls and window sills, lined with French influenced artwork and knick knacks. Next to us, French classics lay sandwiched between bookends shaped like the Eiffel Tower (I wanted to take them home with me).

Coffee orders are brought over from Intelligentsia Coffeebar which is next door. I ordered a latte. It came with a pretty leaf.

After much deliberation and concentrated examination of the small but plentiful menu, to our table and delight was brought….Eggs with Sherry Mushrooms {Arugula, onions & shaved gouda on ciabatta}

… Oeufs à la Coque {soft boiled eggs with pain de mie soldiers}…

…Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict {served on a potato nest}

….and theatrically staged fresh fruit (a must in our breakfast repertoire).

Between bites we enjoyed the company of our friends . We all left with our bellies full and anticipation in our hearts for the next time we can visit again. xoxo!
